Wired or wireless?

Choose this if your yard is an awkward shape, if you have dense tree cover or tall buildings nearby, or if you want the line to sit in exactly the same place every single day. Choose our Wireless GPS Dog Fence instead if you rent, if you move around, or if you would rather not dig.

Fit and training

Fits dogs from about 8 lb up, with a neck between 7 and 20 inches. Contact points against the skin, two fingers of room under the strap.

Plan on about 15 minutes a day for three weeks. Leave the flags up so both of you can see the line, walk your dog toward it on a lead, and reward every turn back. The collar marks a boundary — the flags and your time are what teach it. Do not leave the collar on for more than 12 hours at a stretch, and check the skin underneath daily.

This is a training aid, not a physical barrier. It will not stop a determined dog, and it does not keep other animals or people out. Do not rely on it alone near roads or open water.

      Is this safe for my dog?

      Used correctly, yes. It leads with tone and vibration, and the static levels are adjustable from very low. Find the lowest setting your dog notices — a small ear flick or head turn — and work at that level.

      Not recommended for puppies under six months, or for dogs with aggression, anxiety or fear-based behaviour.

      Will tone and vibration be enough?

      For most dogs, yes. The signal does not teach anything on its own — pairing it consistently with a command your dog already knows is what teaches. Once that association forms, the tone works as a recall cue at full range.

      What size dog does it fit?

      The adjustable straps fit dogs from roughly 5 lb up to 120 lb. Fit matters more than size: contact points against the skin, two fingers of room under the strap.

      Is it waterproof? How long does the battery last?

      The receiver collar is waterproof — rain, mud, swimming and wet fields are all fine. Both parts recharge over USB in around two hours, and a full charge lasts several days of normal use.
